Much like betting on boxing, MMA wagering pits one fighter against the other. Typically, moneyline odds are assigned to the favorite and underdog.

A big favorite like Anderson Silva might see him at -500 (meaning you need to risk $500 just to make $100 in profit). However, if Forrest Griffin is a big underdog, he might be +350 odds (meaning a $100 wager would put $350 profit in your pocket).
There are other types of UFC betting, such as picking if the fight will end in knockout, submission or other form of stoppage. Typically, those odds are available only on the Main Event battles and usually not until a few days or even a few hours before they enter the octagon.
Knowing the specialty of each fighter - is he a striker, a grappler, a wrestler, a kick-boxer - helps you determine the likely outcome. Also knowing the historical weaknesses of fighters lets you handicap how the fight might end.
Edgar proves win no fluke at UFC 118
It was one of the biggest upsets in UFC history - legend BJ Penn decisioned by Frankie Edgar back at UFC 112. But there was no controversy this time as Edgar manhandled Penn for five rounds. The card, which did not see a single knockout, also pitted a serious champion MMA battler against a serious champion boxer.
The result was predictable as Randy Couture threw down former heavyweight boxing champ James Toney and choked him out. Sonnen Backs Up Tough Talk at UFC 117
Chael Sonnen vowed to 'get rid' of Anderson Silva and his recent clown act by knocking him out in UFC 117. Oddsmakers and bettors weren't buying the talk, but he backed it up. In the end, the challenger made one error in the fifth round and the champ pulled a Houdini act with a triangle choke.
UFC 117 odds featured legend Matt Hughes upsetting Ricardo Almeida, along with tough Junior dos Santos earning a heavyweight title shot after battering a resilient Roy Nelson.
Lesnar Rallies Over Carwin in return
If there were ever a battle for the ages where a champion took his lumps, then prevailed for a victory, it was Brock Lesnar at UFC 116.
After nearly a year away due to illness, the heavyweight champ was nearly ground-and-pounded out in the first round, but challenger Carwin gassed himself and was submitted in the second. The bout also marked the second straight tough win for Chris Leben, as he wore down and wore out Yoshihiro Akiyama with a triangle choke.
Legend Liddell Finished After UFC 115
He was a crowd pleaser and one of the most popular UFC performers of all-time, but Chuck Liddell got caught again and lost again in the main event in Vancouver. Rich Franklin caught him with a short shot in the first round, ending what had been a competitive slugfest.
Mirko Cro Cop defeated Pat Barry with a rare submission in a bout where Barry seemed to think Mirko was his buddy. And Martin Kampmann upset Brazilian Paulo Thiago on the main card.
Rashad settles grudge with Rampage at UFC 114
All the pre-fight yapping didn't result in as much scrapping as fans wanted at UFC 114. Rashad Evans handled Rampage Jackson with relative ease to earn a title shot at light heavyweight. The Vegas card also saw Brit Michael Bisping defeat Dan Miller and witnessed several big upsets with John Hathaway beating Diego Sanchez and Cyrille Diabate upsetting Luis Cane.
Rua takes out Machida to cap UFC 113
He was an underdog, just like in their prior match, but Shogun didn't leave it to the judges, knocking out Lyoto Machida early. The card in Montreal was also notable for Kimbo Slice's loss and Josh Koscheck's unanimous decision over Paul Daley.
Silva clowns at UFC 112, Penn upset by Edgar
Nobody was overly enthused by Anderson Silva's mocking of Demian Maia in Dubai. He dominated but acted like a fool, which angered UFC boss Dana White. The co-Main Event featured a huge upset for MMA bettors as Frankie Edgar won as +500 underdog against BJ Penn.

Hardy DOA at UFC 111 as GSP dominates
More MMA observers call Georges St. Pierre the best pound for pound fighter in the world and he showed why in thoroughly dominating a tough customer in Dan Hardy. The Brit was a huge +475 dog but he didn't have a chance, despite fighting off several submission attempts by the powerful Canadian.
Shane Carwin served notice he is for real in the heavyweight discussion with a first-round dismantling of tough Frank Mir, who had been favored at -130 heading into UFC 111.
Cain able to take to Nogueira in Sydney
Velasquez vs Nogueira was almost too close to call and UFC 110 odds reflected it. But Cain handled Big Nog with punches and the fight was over within three minutes.
The co-Main Event saw Wanderlei Silva grind out a unanimous decision over Michael Bisping. The UFC's introduction in Australia was a huge success.
Couture wins again, beats UFC 109 odds vs Coleman
Naysayers called this the battle of geezers, a battle of MMA Hall of Famers but both men came to fight at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. And it was Couture, traditionally a ring-control freak and 'dirty boxer' who got Coleman to the mat and took him out with a rear naked choke in the second round.
Randy had been a huge -400 favorite and he proved why. On the undercard, Paulo Thiago provided great underdog value for MMA bettors by upsetting Mike Swick as a +175 dog.
Evans beats Silva in injury-plagued UFC 108
Injuries kept the UFC 108 card shifting right to the end. But Rashad Evans battled Thiago Silva to a unanimous decision victory at the MGM Grand Hotel in Vegas. He was a -185 favorite and came through for bettors. Canadian Sam Stout was the big underdog victor of the night, defeating Joe Lauzon as a +250 dog.
Penn mightier than Sanchez in UFC 107 battle
Legendary lightweight BJ Penn completely dominated Diego Sanchez in the Main Event in Memphis. Penn battered Sanchez and stopped him in the fifth round with cuts and bruises covering his face.
Frank Mir (submission against Cheick Kongo) and Kenny Florian (submission of Clay Guida) were other highlights of the UFC 107 odds list.
UFC returns to the octagon with UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera
Betting on MMA was a good way for bettors to make some quick and sometime big cash when it first started to become big business a few years ago. When MMA first started to become available, the lines were often favoring the bettor, especially if a surprise knockout occurred.
There have been a number of big MMA payouts for upset wins over the years. Just a few include Quinton “Rampage” Jackson ending Chuck Liddell’s seven-fight winning streak to win the UFC Light Heavy Weight title and Gabriel Gonzaga shocking Mirko Cro Cop with a well-placed kick to the head.
These upsets weren’t as big as Douglas knocking out Tyson, but they still paid well to anyone who took a chance on the underdog.

For the main event at UFC 105, Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera, there is no huge underdog, but there’s still money to be made. Couture, the 46-year-old MMA veteran enters the bout as the favorite, but not by much at -120 at Enterbet . Vera isn’t far behind as a -110 underdog.
It’s not really a surprise that the oddsmakers aren’t too confident about Couture. Not only is he stepping into the octagon at 46 years of age, but he’s also lost his last two fights.
His last bout was at UFC 102 in August where he went three rounds with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and lost by unanimous decision. That loss dropped Couture lifetime MMA record to 16-10 with seven wins by knockout.
Vera is 14 years younger than the elder statesman Couture at 32 years of age. He also last fought at UFC 102, but he won his fight by unanimous decision over Krzysztof Soszynski. Vera’s MMA record stands at 11-3 with seven wins by KO.enterbet
